Job Description:
PURPOSE: The District Building Inspector performs inspection
services associated with the enforcement of and compliance with
City and State commercial, residential building, and zoning codes.
The incumbent's inspection activities ensure the aesthetic
standards of the community in the construction of buildings and
surrounding landscapes are met, and preserve the health, welfare
and safety of the general public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensures code enforcement for residential and commercial
properties.
Identifies and informs appropriate staff of potential violations or
noncompliance with zoning, sign code, or aesthetic standards of the
community.
Reviews construction plans for compliance with State and local
building codes.
Issues all building, HVAC, and occupancy permits for single and two
family residential sites.
Verifies compliance with approved specifications and code
requirements.
Examines building conditions post-disaster, and responds to fire
department requests to assess structural damage as a result of
fire.
Performs liquor license renewal inspections.
Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations and
image with customers, including other City departments and staff,
external groups and organizations, and the community in
general.
Responds to inquiries, general questions, and interprets codes in
order to address concerns from community residents; building
contractors; engineers; architects, and other groups regarding
complaints, issues or orders to correct conditions.
Maintains records and files in coordination with department data
and plan file retention policy.
Issues notices to parties responsible for non-compliance and issues
orders or citations when needed.

REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) Uniform
Dwelling Code (UDC) Certification required for one and two family,
erosion control and energy within six (6) months of
appointment.
2025 Commercial Certification from the Department of Safety and
Professional Services (DSPS) within six (6) months of
appointment
A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a journeyman
carpenter.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a supervising
journeyman.
Associate's degree in architecture or construction from a
university, community college, technical school, business or trade
school preferred.
SALARY RANGE: (2025 Pay Range 128) $39.86 - $45.57 per hour with
excellent benefits. (Appointment is normally at the beginning of
the salary range.)
